After Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing, someone who purchased a ticket in Mississippi is a Mega Millions winner.
The Mega Millions website shows that one person who purchased a ticket in Mississippi, two people in New York and one person in South Carolina won the Match 5 + Megaplier.
According to the Mississippi Lottery Corp., the ticket was sold in Gautier. It matched all five white ball winning numbers normally worth $1 million. For an additional dollar, the player purchased the Megaplier game feature that multiplies winnings by two to five times depending on the number drawn. Tuesday night’s Megaplier number was 2, doubling the prize to $2 million.

“We are thrilled to announce our first multimillion-dollar lottery winner in Mississippi in just a little over four months since Mega Millions sales began,” Mississippi Lottery Corp. President Tom Shaheen said in a news release Wednesday.
Shaheen added that the lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket is eligible to receive $5,000. The name of the retailer will be released once the lottery completes a series of verification checks at the retailer location.
In the meantime, the news release said, the winner is advised to sign the back of their ticket and keep it in a secure location. The lottery also recommends the winner may want to consider consulting with legal and financial advisers. The winner has 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize, which must be done at MLC headquarters in Flowood.
“We’re looking forward to greeting our first Mississippi Lottery millionaire,” Shaheen said.
A single ticket sold in Arizona matched all six numbers drawn – the white balls 1, 5, 9, 10 and 23, plus the gold Mega Ball 22. The lucky ticket-holder wins the $414 million jackpot.
Mississippians have been able to participate in the multistate lottery since January.
The Mega Millions lottery drawings are held each Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.

Mississippi Lottery announces Mega Millions jackpot reaches $1B

The Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced Friday that The Mega Millions® jackpot increased to an estimated annuity jackpot of $1 billion. The new cash value is now estimated at $739.6 million.
The corporation announced that, if won, it would be the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history and the third-largest in U.S. lottery history, trailing only the $1.586 billion Powerball®jackpot in January 2016 and the $1.537 Mega Millions jackpot in October 2018.
The Jan. 22 drawing will be the 37th since the last time the Mega Millions jackpot was hit, making it the longest Mega Millions Jackpot Roll.
